Proposed NFC access conduct requirement for Apple’s mobile platform

Overview

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is consulting on a proposed near field communication (NFC) access conduct requirement for Apple’s mobile platform to enable developers to access NFC technology on iOS devices on fair, reasonable, transparent and non-discriminatory terms.

The proposed NFC access conduct requirement is intended to enable developers to improve their existing offerings, or develop new innovative uses of NFC technology, ultimately improving consumer choice of apps and supporting economic growth in the UK.

About this consultation

After seeking views on key issues relating to NFC access on iOS in June, we've now launched this consultation for the relevant proposed conduct requirement.

The consultation sets out the CMA’s proposed NFC access conduct requirement and its provisional assessment of its effectiveness and proportionality.

We invite submissions on:

  • any aspect of the proposed NFC access conduct requirement
  • the CMA’s analysis
