Early years education and childcare market study

We’ve launched a market study into early years education and childcare services

We’re looking into early years education and childcare services

The CMA is looking into the provision of early years education and childcare services. We want to understand how the sector is working for families and providers, and if it could work better.

This includes services, such as childminders, nurseries and pre-schools, for children from birth until they start school (at age 4 or 5).

We’re focusing on services in England. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can still share your views. This helps us understand similarities and differences across the nations.

As part of this study, we asked families, professionals, and other interested people to share their views on how the childcare market is working. Our call for views has now closed - thank you to everyone who responded to us. The information you provided will help us understand how this sector is working.
