About this market study

The Competition and Markets Authority has launched a market study into the UK’s private dentistry market.

We are looking at:

  • how private dentistry works
  • how well it works for consumers
  • whether it could work better

We are focusing on the supply of private dentistry. By private dental services, we mean any dental care or treatment a consumer purchases for themselves or their family privately in the UK – whether delivered by a dentist or another dental professional (for example a hygienist).

Private dental services do not include any treatment provided on the National Health Service (NHS) (or Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland).

How we handle responses

Depending on the number of responses received, we may use AI tools to assist us with handling responses.

We will not publish individual responses, but we expect to publish some figures arising from the responses we receive (for example, how many people responded), and summarise any broad themes.

Your personal data

Please try to avoid including personal data identifying you or others (for example, patient information), and any sensitive medical data, in your response.

When handling personal data (like your contact details), we comply with data protection law, as set out in the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 and other law designed to protect sensitive information.

For more information about the CMA’s statutory functions, how the CMA processes personal data and your rights relating to that personal data (including your right to complain), see the CMA’s Personal Information Charter.
