The Competition and Markets Authority's (CMA) purpose is to help people, businesses and the UK economy by promoting competition and tackling unfair behaviour.
About this consultation
The CMA is consulting on a proposal to release the Commitments previously offered by Google in relation to its Privacy Sandbox proposals.
We originally accepted the commitments in the context of our investigation concerning Google’s suspected abuse of a dominant position in the market for the supply of web browsers.
The CMA’s concerns were about Google’s proposals to replace third-party cookies and other functionalities in Chrome with its proposed ‘Privacy Sandbox’ tools.
Since the CMA Decision to accept Commitments, Google has announced that it is not going to block third party cookies in general browsing in Chrome and will not prompt users to decide if they want to do this.
This consultation closes at 23:55 on 4 July 2025
We want to hear from you
The CMA believes the commitments are no longer necessary and is now consulting before it takes a decision on whether to release them.
The CMA invites views from stakeholders on the proposal to release the commitments.
The CMA does not intend to publish any responses. However, the information contained in the responses may be used or summarised on an anonymous basis in public documents. If your response contains any information that you would regard as sensitive if it were to be used or summarised on an anonymous basis, please identify the information and explain why you regard it as sensitive.
