The Competition and Markets Authority's (CMA) purpose is to help people, businesses and the UK economy by protecting competition and tackling unfair behaviour.
About this consultation
The markets regime set out in the Enterprise Act 2002 contains the functions and powers that the CMA has to undertake market reviews, market studies and, market investigations.
The CMA uses these to monitor and investigate markets within the United Kingdom that may not be working well for consumers and to address any competition and consumer protection issues it finds.
The CMA produces guidance on the way it exercises its functions in the markets regime.
We consulted on the draft new guidance covering:
the processes we will follow
the way we will assess markets
the remedies we may apply where we identify problems
the way we will monitor, review and update those remedies
We propose to update and replace existing guidance, including to take account of amendments to the markets regime made in the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.
Responding to our consultation
This consultation closed at 5pm on 3 December 2024.
