About this event

This webinar is to help businesses that publish customer reviews understand what they need to do to comply with new legislation relating to fake or potentially misleading customer reviews, which came into force in April 2025.

It will cover:

  • the steps the CMA expects publishers of reviews to take in relation to fake and incentivised reviews
  • the requirement to avoid publishing consumer reviews (and information derived from them, such as product ratings) in a misleading way
  • the findings of the CMA's recent sweep of review publishers’ policies, the concerns that they highlighted, and steps these publishers should take to ensure they comply with the law going forward

We also plan to offer attendees the opportunity to put questions to the CMA.

Why you should attend

The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, which came into force in April 2025, imposes a duty on anyone who publishes reviews or review information to take effective steps to prevent and remove from publication:

  • fake or concealed, incentivised reviews
  • false or misleading review information
The CMA recently carried out a websweep of over 100 businesses that publish consumer reviews. The results have raised concerns over businesses’ understanding of their obligations around the prevention of fake and misleading reviews and review information.

Who should attend

This session is for:

  • businesses that host consumer reviews on their sites, and their advisers
  • businesses that provide services to review publishers
